Peg Perego is most popularly known for its Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat. They are now entering into the world of convertible car seats. They have come up with the Primo Viaggio 5-70 Convertible Car seat. It will grow with your child from five to seventy pounds. I had a chance to check out the Primo Viaggio car seat up close and personal and must say there are quite a few features you may like.
First off we have the specs. This car seat has a huge weight capacity starting from five pounds all the way up to seventy pounds. When you use it rear-facing it has a capacity of five to forty-five pounds which is enormous! This is the highest rear facing weight limit on the market. It’s pretty awesome to keep your baby rear facing as long as possible. Then when you switch to forward facing the limit goes up to seventy pounds or 49 inches whichever limit is reached first. More than likely you will hit the height limit first. The average six or seven year old is usually at or above 49 inches. Technically Peg Perego says you can switch to forward facing when your child reaches 22 pounds, but I still think that’s a little too early, and it is better and safer to keep them rear facing as long as possible, which is what makes this seat awesome- the 45 pound weight limit on rear facing.
Other features to take note of are:
- Padded 5-point harness
- Shock Absorbing Foam Element (SAFE) to absorb energy on impact
- Top Tether Strap
- EPS energy Foam
- The harness keeps out of the way of your child when you put them in or take them out of the seat
- Three recline positions
Probably my most favorite feature is adjustable Side Impact Protection (SIP). It is extremely easy to adjust to the 10 different positions all the while your baby is in the seat! While you are adjusting the SIP it moves the head piece but the straps too. Now you don’t have to take out the car seat and re-thread the harness.
With so many features this seat doesn’t come cheap of course. You can find the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 5-70 for around $330. Yes, it is high, but what you get for the money it’ll be worth it!
